Valentino Haute Couture Spring 2010
Valentino
Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli are clearly aiming to establish their own voice while staying true to the legacy of the great Valentino Garavani. Between their Fall 2009 couture and Spring 2010 ready-to-wear collections, they seemed to hit their stride: frothy frocks with all the ornate glamour of their predecessor but the shortened hemlines of their modern muse (22-year-old, pink-haired Dree Hemingway is the brand's current campaign face). For Spring 2010 couture, the duo seemed to veer off their carefully balanced path in favor of the ultra-modern--look no further than the Avatar makeup for proof. Draped and wrapped dresses (more warrior than goddess) and pants recalled a certain collection shown in New York. Colors ranged from pale nude to neon yellow. Jackets were energized with bright metallic colorblocks and sharp shoulders. Alice Dellal, British It-girl who sparked an unlikely craze with her half-shaved head, walked the runway.
