Third Time’s a Charm?
(NEW YORK) The Swiss Textile Awards are an international affair, but Americans have taken the top prize for the last two years running. Alexander Wang took home the prize in 2010, and Rodarte earned the honor in 2011. This year, the odds are good that a Yankee just might take it again. The nominees for the 100,000 Euro prize? Jason Wu, Adam Kimmel, London-based Mary Katrantzou (who also recently made the shortlist for the Dorchester Fashion Prize), London-based Duro Olowu, Paris/Korea-based Juun J, and Paris/Croatia-based Damir Doma. This is the 11th year that the Swiss Textile Federation has hosted the award, which will be presented November 4 in Zurich, Switzerland.
The nomination and selection of the finalists has been done by a 14-person team of fashion figures from around the world, who this year includes Harper’s Bazaar’s Glenda Bailey, Karen Langley of Dazed & Confused, Vanessa Friedman of the Financial Times UK, and Silvano Vangi of Luisa Via Roma. The winner will be chosen by a new international jury the night of the event, when attendees will be treated to a presentation of previous winner Wang’s Spring 2011 collection.
