Sonia Rykiel Taps Geraldo Da Conceicao
(NEW YORK) Sonia Rykiel has named Geraldo Da Conceicao as their new creative director, replacing April Crichton who has been creative director since last September. Effective next month, Conceicao will begin prepping for Fall 2013-14 to debut in February. Previously, the Canadian-born designer held senior design positions at Miu Miu, Yves Saint Laurent, and most recently, at Louis Vuitton as their women's design director.
This appointment comes amidst a period of great change for the fashion label. February marked Fung Brands Ltd.’s acquisition of 80 percent of the company; the Rykiel family still retains 20 percent. Additionally, there have been a handful of key staff appointments recently, including new commercial director Eric Rousseau from Jean Paul Gaultier and product and merchandising manager Sophie Templier from Chloé. As for Paris Fashion Week? The brand has bowed out of its Sept. 28 show to host one-on-one appointments with select press and buyers.
