(NEW YORK) It's turning out to be a day of epic media shake-ups. As Sally Singer prepares to depart Vogue for T, The Daily has learned that W's new editor Stefano Tonchi has initiated a round of layoffs at the Condé Nast title. Julie Belcove, the magazine's longtime deputy editor, is departing her post. Belcove, who has written the editor's letter for the last six years (at least), was named deputy editor at the title in 2001; she has been a longterm veteran of Fairchild Publications. She is currently on vacation and was allegedly informed via telephone.

Belcove was among several W staffers laid off today. Others include senior fashion features editor Dana Wood, editorial manager Brian Sullivan, photo editor Nadia Vellam, and assistant editorial manager Lauren Kill. According to chatter at 750 Third Avenue, even more staffers have been affected. Stay tuned for updates; as of 1:53 p.m, calls and emails to W spokespeople had not been returned.

UPDATE: Tonchi announced the appointment of Ted Moncreiff as executive editor. He formerly served in the same position at Newsweek. His first day at W is June 21.
