(NEW YORK) Prabal Gurung “It’s the last season at Bryant Park and my first show. It happened! It’s incredibly thrilling, humbling, and exciting,” noted Gurung backstage after his show. The designer had plenty of reason to be elated. Just one year after showing during New York Fashion Week for the first time, Gurung found himself underneath The Tents, complete with a front row of supportive editors. Racking up accolades including the Ecco Domani award, Gurung can add another feather to his designer’s cap: a smashingly successful runway show. Frocks adorned with black and white ruffles cascaded down the runway while a mini dress dripping in Swarovski crystals was positively resplendent. “The collection can be summed up in three words: speed, motion and graphics,” Gurung explained post-show. “The whole world we’re living in and with the technology of today, information can be sent at such a crazy speed.” The collection gently touched on this notion without ever being too literal. As always, Gurung’s keenly thoughtful designs were made for “the thinking man’s sex symbol.” With a fierce attention to detail, Gurung delivered a collection that was unrelenting in its sophistication and glamour.
ADAM by Adam Lippes
“I was blown away when I saw this Isca Greenfield-Sanders' painting of a parachutist floating down. There were all these shades of gray floating, floating, floating,” explained Adam Lippes pre-show. Models sailed down the runway, clad in ivory merino wool cable knit sweaters and metallic wool wrap dresses. Pleated frocks with leather piping highlighted Lippes’ concentration on the minutia. The designer noted, “Even though this is a fall collection and the fabrics may be heavy, I tried to give a lot of detail to make it light.” Gathered, draping hemlines added oomph and movement to the billowy silhouettes. A dark palette injected with bursts of print and color created a visually arresting and intricate collection.
