(NEW YORK) It’s probably safe to say that Jason Wu has already reached a point in his young career in which the average fashion insider doesn’t have to include his name and Michelle Obama's in the same sentence. After all, Diane Kruger is one of his other visible mega muses and so are the devoted shoppers in Bergdorf Goodman who have contributed to 80% sell-through of his pre-fall that just hit the store days ago. In other words, the business is booming, his new offices are glistening with optimism, and Wu understands the importance of a strong transitional collection better than most. The designer’s resort was dedicated to Anna Karina, a chic Danish born, French spirit who would probably approve of most pieces showcased at St.Regis. Those included beautiful print chiffon dresses, lined trench coats and parkas, and smart investment pieces like soft blouses, cashmere, and pleat skirts. Wu also experimented with animal prints for the first time by showcasing his clever take on leopard through a dress and jacket linings. His jabot dresses and some of the evening gowns seemed to be designed for more of his mature devotee base, though his scarlet print one shoulder standout is most definitely red carpet bound. Overall, the collection consisted of more than a few well-executed elements and set up the designer nicely for future collections.
