Runway Reviews: Erro, Sachin & Babi for Ankasa
(NEW YORK) Erro
Pheobe Philo’s Celine may be the most-copied look in fashion currently, but for the girl who isn’t trading her shredded black denim for trim camel trousers, enter Erro. Nothing prim or pretty, the wares by young Swedish designer Anna Larson came in mostly black—all slouchy, threadbare, slashed, sheer and unbearably cool. Easy, worn-in looking tees, bodysuits and mini-frocks were balanced with great structured leather pieces, like a molded bustier top over a gray tee or a super-wide stappy corset belt that was like a more perverse version of the Alaia favorites. Even the most tailored look, a taupe button-down style shirt, came with slashes at the armpits. No, it’s not for Philophiles, but Larson knows her customer. After all, Williamsburg-based rock chicks need clothes too, non?
Sachin & Babi
College sweethearts Sachin and Babi Ahluwalia’s latest collection for Spring 2011 was inspired by a recent trip to the rolling hills of Tuscany and historical piazzas of Siena. Their earth-toned palette pays homage to the intricate architectural details from the dilapidated villas and mansions in Italy, such as lattice weaves, that are interspersed into silk and lamé dresses and deconstructed jackets and slacks with exposed raw seams attached onto tulle. Rounding out this feminine and romantic collection were diaphanous nude sequined chiffon tops and asymmetrically draped bodices. Like everything they do, the collection epitomizes their effortless chic lifestyle.
