Runway Review: Miu Miu
(PARIS) MIU MIU
The music ranged from the Flashdance movie trailer to American Idol-esque critiques to newscast reports of Nutcracker auditions. No wonder Miuccia Prada identifed the aspiring star as her Spring muse. The references were literal----starbursts shapes in metallic leather or bright satin, tacked onto garments and accessories. But despite the superhero-friendly brightness of the graphic shapes, this was a more grown-up collection than the pastel baby-doll flower-adorned dresses of last season, if only in silhouettes. Lengths were all demurely below-the-knee, and shapes were streamlined and lean, although lattice-like cutouts at the neck on simple black dresses and swan motifs displayed all the youthful joie de vivre of Prada’s baby sister collection. The strongest looks were the simplest: pleated satin dresses with long sleeves, in cobalt blue or chartreuse—but it wouldn’t be Miu Miu without a bit of quirk factor, would it? Miuccia Prada did take her bow wearing the banana earrings from Prada’s Spring collection, after all.
