Resort 2014: Tibi
(NEW YORK) Tibi
Painterly panache! Tibi dabbled with different strokes for their Resort showing, while maintaining a breezy air of toss-it-on ease. On the patterned front, a big, blotlike motif rendered in B&W, with pops of crimson, felt like an abstract take on the Rorschach test. The inky theme continued through slim, crisp white pencil skirts sporting quite a bit of splattering (a bit Pollack-esque, perhaps?). The same treatment with a jumpsuit serving as the canvas, also on white, channeled one of the collection's inspiration pieces, a painter's uniform, perhaps a bit too closely. But it was indeed a quirky take on summer's ubiquitous shades of white nonetheless. The pattern translated even better when grounded by a black background. Also in the white mini category, a sleek twist of black hugged the thighs of one textured creamy skirt, paired with a navy button down (quirked up with buttons set off-kilter to the side). To complement the primarily neutral looks, bits of cobalt (in the form of a boxy blazer atop black skinnies), pale blue, and verdant shades of green cropped up. As did crop tops, in the form of brief black shells, sometimes paired with voluminous skirting. As for the pieds, it was flats for all, perhaps underscoring the utilitarian cues of workwear. Getting the job done can be easier when you j'adore the uniform, right?
