Photos for Thought
“I’m feeling great and completely comfortable right now, because I’m in my suede Cole-Haan low tops,” revealed Todd Selby last night at 10 Downing. Guests gathered to fête the Cole Haan Spring 2010 ad campaign, “The Inspired Life,” shot by Selby, featuring fresh faces like Maria Sharapova, Harley Viera-Newton, gallery director for Dietch Projects Nicola Vassel, and other chic eccentrics. The fashion photographer’s highlight of the photo shoots? “My favorite part was watching Maria Sharapova play badminton. She was pretty badass. One minute you would see her smiling and laughing, and then the next second: game face on!”
Guests perused the campaign’s photographs and sipped on heavenly concoctions like the popular “Giggle Water,” a medley of Vodka, elderflower liqeur, lime juice, cucumber and mint. Viera-Newton DJed the evening, hanging back in her homey booth decorated with fresh flowers and candles. “This project is a little different from a typical campaign, because it’s more relaxed and about showing each individual in completely down-to-earth way. It’s not about the fancy, dolled-up look. It’s super natural.” The model/DJ/NYU student explained that she wanted to fill the room with music that would make revelers forget the weather. “I’m playing the Stone Roses. They’re from Manchester, where it’s always bleak, and so they’re experts at taking your mind off the rain.”
