Paris Spring 2013: Miu Miu, Elie Saab
(PARIS) Miu Miu
A femme fatale for Spring, courtesy of Ms. Prada. Faintly Hitchcockian, the collection's center of gravitas was the long coat, whether in denim, treated silk, billowing satin, or mink. A voluminous fur stole and an ultra-lean pencil skirt completed the look, which was charmingly paired with flat, embellished sandals or pointy-toe pumps. Crinkling was also key, whether intentionally done to the fabric or printed onto it directly, trompe l'oeil style. And interestingly enough, so was denim, worn as a suit with the aforementioned skinny skirt and a billowing top.
Elie Saab
Youthful, fresh and erring on the side of demure, Saab's latest started in a monochrome blue state of mind (in shades of cobalt and teal, from pantsuits to crossbody bag-slung flared frocks) before dipping into an array of patterns, having a quick cream palette cleanser, and wrapping up with elegantly executed lace and spangles. Lace was given a bit of structure, flair, and even sex appeal by way of same-hued ribbons traversing the body horizontally on skirts, crisscrossing the bodice in diamond-shaped configurations. Nothing gamechanging, but quite pretty across the board.
