New York and London Compromise Fashion Week Schedules
(NEW YORK) Milan scores a point in the stubborn global tug-of-war over future fashion weeks' dates. New York and London have yielded to Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana's demands for Milan's schedule by agreeing to bump up their dates for the September 2012 shows. NYFW is now slated for September 6-13, followed by LFW from September 14-18.
"People are anxious and need to know the dates. There's no value for the cities to compete," said the CFDA's Steven Kolb of the stresses resulting from the less-than-chic scheduling scuffles. "We need to begin to look at the fashion season not as individual fashion weeks, but very much as a global business."
Though the CFDA and London's British Fashion Council have relented for the near future, the two organizations are striving farther out for a solution "that would see a confirmed fashion season where brands and designer businesses in all four fashion capitals (New York, London, Milan and Paris) can plan for the long term and when exceptional circumstances arise there is dialogue and empathy to find a solution that works for all," said the BFC in a statement.
As for the second half of Spring 2012's globe-trotting month of shows, MFW will run from September 18-25, bookended by PFW set to show September 25-October 2.
