Milan Spring 2013: Bottega Veneta, Dolce & Gabbana
(MILAN) Bottega Veneta
Ladylike and slimcut summed up the Bottega Veneta femme for Spring, with dark, muted florals blooming frequently. Cardigans and elbow-grazing sleeves underscored the demure factor, as did the hemlines, hitting just south of the knees and layered over sheer noir stockings. Sophisticated and quite a bit nostalgic in a palette of russets and muted marigold, Tomas Maier has the market cornered on the refined femme's wardrobe.
Dolce & Gabbana
The vivacious, colorsplashed Sicilian lifestyle synonymous with the Dolce & Gabbana orbit got striped and pattern-peppered to perfection. In place of last season's cornucopia of edible-oriented prints (chili peppers, anyone?) there were plenty of touristy scenes and said stripes, the latter done wide, horizontal, vertical, and often on an angle. The influx of made-in-Sicily details (scarf prints, puppet-shaped earrings, raffia and wood detailing) may not have been wearable head to toe, save for costume party occasions, but dissected, especially in the case of those stripes and a series of maroon-embroidered cream numbers, there's plenty to get (wander)lust over.
