Milan Fall 2013: Gucci
(MILAN) Gucci
Gucci's gone (back) into the wild. Ferns and feathers were the theme at Frida Giannini's Fall show; perhaps mother nature and lightness were on her mind, post-baby. Skirt suits, pantsuits, and dresses were embroidered with overblown leaves that fell down the sides to outline the silhouette or in some cases were worked in as a print on a shift dress. The design worked over a canvas of black, got trotted out in peals of aquamarine, forest green and burgundy. Sharply cut, a tinge of the futuristic, and a tempered, simmering femininity ruled throughout, including hues of dusky raspberry and pumpkin frocks. In the eveningwear realm? Luscious silk column gowns with translucent cutouts, avec birds of paradise dyed feathers placed like wings. In some cases, those feathery plumes caught a bit of wind, lending the effect of flying right off the skirts' surfaces. Also prowling the catwalk? Full-on snakeskin pencil dresses and grey boots in black, burnt orange and ashy greys added to the already sizzling sex appeal. Which is precisely the Gucci DNA we hope the brand never sheds.
