Milan Fall 2011: Moschino, Etro
(NEW YORK) Moschino
When Rossella Jardini indulges her romantic side, the effect can be either cheeky or sublime. Her Fall 2011 collection tended towards the latter, with an eminently wearable selection. Masculine/feminine elements abounded, in both the traditional black and white tuxedos and a gold lamé version. A series of straightforward, draped cocktail dresses, in that same lamé as well as red and black satin, are just the sort of thing that versatility-minded women are always looking for. But it was the flourishes—a ruffled neck here, a silk rosette there—that elevate these looks above mere basics. Dashing.
Etro
With the current fixation on print, color, and boldness in general, it's a good time to be Etro. For Fall, Veronica Etro toned down the palette to rust, black, and loden (trend alert!), with some salmon and lamé thrown in for good measure. A nod to the Brits—not the first we've seen in Milan this week—came courtesy of tartans, flannel outerwear, and chunky knits. But when paired with, say, lamé pants and/or metallic leather trim, the effect is not exactly pastoral. A floor-grazing one-shoulder printed gown on Abbey Lee reminded the crowd why one of those hardworking Etro dress is something needed by every self-respecting fashionette.
