(NEW YORK) Yesterday, The Dorchester Collection Fashion Prize judges announced the five lucky semi-finalists of the first annual fashion prize, held at The Dorchester Hotel in London. Louise Goldin, Mary Katrantzou, Chau Har Lee, Hermione de Paula, and Thomas Tait will compete for the final prize, which will be announced in November. The winner will have the opportunity to host an event (accommodation compris!) at any of the Dorchester Collection hotels his or her heart desires. Once the designer has chosen a hotel—there are nine to choose from worldwide—he or she will receive £25,000 (that’s approximately $37,925, at current exchange rates) to launch a new collection of ready-to-wear or premium accessories.
The five finalists have been selected by the illustrious panel of Manolo Blahnik, Giles Deacon, The Hon, Daphne Guinness, Stephen Jones, Yasmin Le Bon, Elizabeth Saltzman and Gianluca Longo from a pool of 69 UK-based designers. But stateside designers, take note: The intention of The Dorchester Collection Fashion Prize is to pay recognition to rising designers around the world; this prize is the only international fashion prize that will annually change locations to a city with a Dorchester Collection hotel. Next year, the competition will be held at The New York Palace.
