(NEW YORK) Oscar de la Renta continues to support to his dear friend and moonlighting designer in residence, John Galliano: de la Renta has supposedly been in talks to bring Galliano on board, full time, according to WWD. This comes after a three-week stint completed at de la Renta’s New York studio, which resulted in a Fall 2013 collection that melded the design DNA of both designers.
Although Galliano saw his career spiral downward following a 2011 anti-Semitic incident in a Parisian café, the designer has faced a bumpy road after losing his perch atop the Dior design team, not to mention being sacked from his eponymous label. His troubles with the LVMH brand are yet to be over, as a legal dispute has yet to be resolved. Anna Wintour and Conde Nast International’s chairman and chief, Jonathan Newhouse, have both gone on the record to offer support to the French designer, the latter of whom has even taken to educating Galliano on his errors. While the designer has taken steps to clear his name, mainly through a revealing interview with Vanity Fair and a TV bit with Charlie Rose, his proposed master class at Parsons was shot down by an online petition. As for a teaching gig at Central Saint Martins, Galliano's alma mater? Rumors, perhaps, as the school denied the idea. Galliano's got a costume-design stint with actor and playwright Stephen Fry on the docket, but otherwise, a new spate of projects have yet to trickle in for the designer.
