Gaultier Does Lingerie---Again
(NEW YORK) Jean Paul Gaultier may be down one day job (Hermès finally announced in May that Christophe Lemaire would be replacing him as creative director of the brand), but the designer is staying busy and going back to his roots with a new project: a lingerie line created in collaboration with La Perla. Gaultier will show two pieces from the line at his upcoming couture show in Paris on July 7, but shoppers will have to wait until November, when the collection hits stores, before they can get their hands on the merchandise. Although Gaultier produces swimwear, this is the first official line of underpinnings by the designer---not counting the infamous cone bra he created for Madonna’s 1990 Blonde Ambition tour (revisited last fall with a version sported by a very pregnant Jourdan Dunn at his Spring 2010 show). No doubt Madge fans will be crossing their fingers for another reprise.
