Gary Graham Hits the Web
(NEW YORK) He may be just days away from showing his Spring 2011 collection during New York Fashion Week, but Gary Graham has been busy getting another big project under his belt: a relaunched website and the introduction of e-commerce. Garygrahamnyc.com launches today, complete with a store blog and Gary’s Journal, a blog written personally by Graham. “We wanted to extend the store,” the designer told The Daily. “There are a lot of things that happen in the store: we do a lot of limited edition runs, installations—it’s a great way of communicating that. And e-commerce has become very important. We do a lot of phone sales, but this is a way for the customer to become more independent.”
The store’s blog will be the place for product news (“if we’re doing a new jewelry line, or if we do a limited-edition jacket from an antique piece of linen, if we have a new installation or dressing room,” he explained), while Graham’s blog will document his everyday inspirations and musings—just don’t call him a blogger. “I’m calling it my journal!” he laughed, admitting that he doesn’t have a personal facebook account, only recently started tweeting, and doesn’t even have a TV. “My personal blog is a little more of a sketchbook. I’m more paper orientated!”
Graham’s Spring 2011 collection will bow September 11 at Milk Studios. “It’s pretty intense,” he said of his Fashion Week preparation. “Spring is an interesting season because you have a little longer time and there’s more of an incubation period, but it always comes down to the wire! Spring was inspired by photographs that I took in Honesdale, Pennsylvania. I have in mind an artist from the ‘70s, a fictitious character. There are images that I took that have become prints, and they’ll have the whole Gary Graham rustic vibe. Also, we’re doing shoes this season.” A new site, a new collection, a new line of shoes—we’ll have what Graham’s having.
