Galliano Out at Dior; Who’s Attending on March 6?
(PARIS) It’s confirmed: fashion designer John Galliano has been ousted from his position as creative director at Christian Dior. Dior president and CEO Sidney Toledano released a statement this afternoon, saying, “I condemn most firmly the statements made by John Galliano, which are a total contradiction with the essential values that have always been defended by the House of Christian Dior.”
Galliano has been involved in a whirlwind of controversy regarding the allegations of racist and anti-Semitic remarks made at the Paris fashion hang-out La Perle on thursday night. A video was released yesterday by the U.K.’s Sun newspaper, showing Galliano at the café, in which he allegedly expresses his love for Hitler and makes references to people being gassed.
Reps for John Galliano’s eponymous line are also obviously feeling the pressure of the scandal. A PR rep for the brand sent out a group email this afternoon asking attendees to confirm their presence at Galliano’s personal presentation, planned for Sunday, March 6. So far, Dior has announced no plans to cancel their runway show for Friday, March 5—but don't expect a runway bow.
