(NEW YORK) At last night's 113th annual Pratt Institute fashion show at Center 548 and apres-runway cocktails at the Dream Downtown's PH-D, Fern Mallis got feted with the tony design school's Fashion Industry Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by Calvin Klein. Talk about a power pair! Klein praised NYFW's unofficial matriarch for her "steadfastness and good humor to the world" upon taking to the podium, and shortly after, a rouge-clad Mallis teared up from the get-go (aww alert!). Your Daily snagged a chat with Klein and Mallis moments before the lights dimmed and an inspired slew of Pratt's fashion grad class trotted out their truly inspired, often whimsical designs, surveyed by a front row set that included the likes of Steven Kolb, Hamish Bowles, Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, Cathy Horyn, and Vivienne Tam. A big congrats to Mallis and the incipient Pratt grads!

What's the best memory you've shared?
Calvin Klein:
I've lost my memory! We go back so many years together, on the Council of Fashion Designers. She ran the show. All I remember is that Fern truly held it together by keeping a group of designers with lots and lots and lots of opinions through all those board meetings. Do you remember those meetings?
Fern Mallis: Oh, I remember them well. I wish I'd kept better notes, though! Things were going on every day that I wanted to hold onto, and I told myself there was no way I'd ever forget a thing. Each meeting and idea was more crazy than the next.

What or where is on the Fern and Calvin collective to-do list?
FM: Oh, gosh. There's a world full of places to go and things to do.

Anywhere you've been together?
FM: I've run into Calvin in St. Barth's.
CK: That's definitely a fun place.

So is there an after-party after the cocktail party this evening?
FM: I'm going to play it by ear, with the rain and all. I was going to organize a whole Boom Boom thing, but to keep everyone out at night until 11 p.m.? This whole event is a celebration, it's not about going anywhere else. It's about enjoying this moment!

Have you heard each others' speeches in advance?
FM: I don't know what Calvin has to say, but I've got a lot of nice things to say.

What should these soon-to-be Pratt grads be mindful of as they hit the real world?
CK: Have faith. Whether it's fashion, architecture, or graphic design, it's about finding what you love to do and enjoying the process. Try to be confident and trust your instincts!
