(NEW YORK) There's a new editor in Town! Will Kahn joins T&C as accessories editor on May 28, after spending five years at W, most recently as accessories editor. Kahn began his role at W as accessories closet assistant in December 2007, moving on to become market assistant in the W accessories klatch six months later; associate accessories editor in 2010; and accessories editor in July 2011. Prior to W, Kahn held brief stints as online editorial assistant at Teen Vogue and fashion assistant at New York. Currently, there's no accessories editor on T&C's masthead. Nor is there a formal accessories director, although style director Stellene Volandes's experience in the accoutrement realm covers that capacity (she was formerly jewelry and accessories director at the mag).
"There can never be too many accessories in Town & Country as nothing excites us more than a beautiful shoe, an elegant handbag, and exquisite jewelry," Alexandra Kotur, creative director at the Hearst glossy, told The Daily. "Will, with his extensive experience at W under his belt, is just the right person to edit this market for us and to bring accessories alive within our pages."
Your Daily queried Kahn about his new gig and what lured him from his longtime Conde perch to T&C's pages:
Will, what've you picked up in the industry and how will it apply to the next move?
I have spent over 5 years in the accessories department at W, learning all markets from millinery and eyewear, to shoes and bags. I worked for some of the most visionary editors in the business. Now, I'm ready to hone my own skills as an editor and style my own stories and pages.
So, why T&C?
It is an exciting time for Town & Country as they are growing and reshaping as a magazine, so it's an ideal time to bring my experience to the accessories coverage.
What will you be able to do at T&C that you couldn't do in the pages of W?
I'm looking forward to working with their fashion team and helping to shape the accessories coverage, styling accessories stories, and getting to helm the invaluables page each issue. It's a great opportunity to show my point of view through the lens of the Town & Country reader.
