Current/Elliott Designers Exit Eponymous Label
(NEW YORK) What's the future of Current/Elliott without Current or Elliott? We're about to find out. L.A.-based designers Meritt Elliott and Emily Current have exited their namesake label. Thus far, no reason has been given for the departure. However, speculation is mounting that the design duo didn't see eye-to-eye with the brand's co-founder, CEO, and creative director, Serge Azria, who also owns Equipment and Joie. Current/Elliott's fanbase, which still covets the brand's famed "boyfriend" jeans, need not despair. Elliott and Current already have design projects in the works, and will continue to style and consult on a regular basis.
Current/Elliott was founded in July 2008 as a denim-driven business, renowned for expert tailoring and vintage-inspired washes nodding to seventies Americana. Brand collaborations have included Marni, DvF, and most recently, Mary Katrantzou in September.
