Christian Dior To Sponsor Guggenheim Gala
BFA View Gallery
(NEW YORK) The Guggenheim Gala is getting glitzier. Christian Dior will be sponsoring the annual social event on November 6th and 7th. On hand to make the announcement today: Dior's creative director, Raf Simons; director of the Guggenheim, Richard Armstrong; and board member, Jennifer Stockman. The first night is held by the Young Collectors Council, with a musical performance that is yet to be announced, while the second night will be a benefit gala dinner. The honorees this year will be abstract artist Christopher Wool, whose retrospective is set for October, as well as James Turrell, an artist known for working with light and space. Turrell's exhibit opens tomorrow. Simons is a known contemporary art enthusiast and has referenced the work of artists like Pablo Picasso, Conrad Shawcross, and Robert Ryman in his collections. Even Christian Dior himself was a gallerist prior to becoming a fashion designer and LVMH head honcho Bernard Arnault is known for his collection of art being listed by Artnews as one of the world's top ten collectors in the world. Sounds like an all-around match made in heaven.
