Carine Roitfeld Named Global Fashion Director at Harper's Bazaar
(NEW YORK) An eponymous mag isn't the only major project on Carine Roitfeld's docket this fall: The former French Vogue EIC has been named global fashion director at Harper’s Bazaar. In her new capacity, Roitfeld will work closely with Bazaar's creative director, Stephen Gan, her longtime collaborator and friend as well as design director and publisher of her biannual mag launched last month, CR Fashion Book. Expect a handful of stories from Roitfeld to grace the pages of Bazaar's 26 international editions which reach a collective 11.3 million readers, beginning with the March 2013 issue. Some prime Bazaar cover real estate is expected to get the Roitfeld treatment in the process.
"Working with Stephen and a roster of talented photographers will be a wonderful collaboration and one that will give these stories a truly global audience," Roitfeld said in a Hearst statement.
What does Hearst's top brass have to say of the buzzy appointment? "Carine is one of the fashion world’s most influential tastemakers, and we look forward to seeing what she does with Bazaar," said David Carey, president of Hearst Magazines, in a statement. "Her contributions will help lead the company to new heights on the creative front.”
One might wonder why the Hearst statement issued this morning made no mention of Bazaar EIC Glenda Bailey. The Daily has inquired about Bailey’s two cents on Roitfeld’s new role, via a Hearst spokesperson. Stay tuned for updates!
