Chic headed to Billy Reid's semi-new Bond Street showroom on Monday evening for a little shindig (no pig roast this time!) to celebrate the launch of his new collaboration with K.Swiss. It's always a pleasure to catch up with the 2010 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award winner while he's in town from his native Alabama.
Billy Reid and K. Swiss....together at last! How'd this happen?
Honestly, It was selfishl. I had these old pair of K-Swiss tennis shoes that I've had since the eighties. I sent (publicist) Megan Maguire Steele the shoe and said, "Can you call the people at K-Swiss, I want to remake the shoe." One thing led to another, and we redeveloped it. They were very accommodating. Thank goodness I have a new pair of shoes.
Anything you don't want to come back?
A hell of a lot. When I was a kid, my mom owned a clothing store, and she used to give me women's shirts to wear. The buttons were on the wrong side. None of my friends recognized it, but I knew. She also gave me a pair of vinyl pants, which were the most uncomfortable thing. I wore them once.
Are you doing a store in the Hamptons?
We're thinking about it, we'd love to. I'd want the store to feel like a home, and that takes time.
What does Billy Reid watch on TV?
My kids watch the Disney Channel. I'm typically watching sports of any kind.
Let's talk politics! What do you think of Donald Trump potentially running for president?
I like anything that shakes it up, but I disagree with a lot of what he has to say. I think there is good in getting people outside of the political process to bring something to the conversation. I don't agree with the conversation he's having, but he is certainly becoming a "politician."
