Alber's Birthday Snafu

(NEW YORK) Alber Elbaz showed Lanvin’s 2011 Summer Pre-Collection at Milk Studios this morning, merely two days after his 49th birthday. “It was most pathetic birthday celebration ever,” he told the intimate, EIC-heavy crowd. “I was at the Air France lounge waiting to get on the flight to New York, and the airline attendant presented me with a muffin. I think we both felt embarrassed."
And then it got worse. Once Elbaz arrived in New York, the Mercer Hotel staff surprised him with an en suite card and cake. “Except I was all alone and I didn’t want to be that person eating an entire cake by myself in a hotel room,” the maestro confessed. “So I tried to hide it, and it fell on the floor. I was too ashamed to call downstairs and ask for help with the clean-up, so I got on my knees and did it by myself.”
The room was so touched that the likes of Robbie Myers, Alexis Bryan Morgan, Cathy Horyn, Harold Koda, Stefano Tonchi, Lynn Hirschberg, Fabien Baron, Cindi Leive, Xanthipi Joannides, Julie Gilhart, and Jeffrey Kalinsky all burst into a "Happy Birthday" serenade immediately following the presentation. The designer didn’t get the same loving treatment at his first presentation of the day, which was attended by Anna Wintour and others. “These presentations get fatter and more exciting,” smiled Elbaz after the crowd dispersed. “It’s almost like they’ve become weddings and birthday parties.” And the master of ceremonies wasn’t the only Gemini celebrating this weekend. His longtime partner, Lanvin’s director of marketing Alex Koo, celebrated his own anniversaire on Sunday. “It’s been a never-ending birthday weekend for all involved,” he smiled.
