A Moment With...Cameron Diaz Chez Elie Saab
(PARIS) She was a no-show at the show, but Elie Saab superfan Cameron Diaz did make it to a private dinner at Saab's elegant home in Paris to toast his Spring 2011 haute couture collection. "It’s like you put it on immediately and you know that [Elie] loves women’s bodies," she said as a coterie of Saab's intimates mingled around the buffet, which featured a veritable feast of Lebanese delicacies. "He just wants to make them look beautiful. It’s so easy to wear, but you always feel really elegant in it.” The star, sporting a seafoam Saab, was in town from London, and as talk turned to awards season, she confessed that she has no plans to attend the 2011 Academy Awards. However! A dress by Saab would "certainly be a contender."
Hardly unusual for this particular designer, but at the end of his haute couture presentation yesterday morning, the one phrase attendees kept repeating was “red carpet,” something the couture shows hadn’t offered much of so far. This collection of dresses seemed destined from the opening number, a gorgeous evening gown in pale tea-rose tulle, embroidered with sequins and hand-made flowers, to be the happy hunting ground of many a celebrity stylist. Dresses floated down the runway in a classic spring palette of mauves, raspberry, and stone; Saab kept the silhouette slender, high waisted and wonderfully regal, especially with classic plunging backlines. The couture details, chiffon pieced with lace ribbons, floral embroidery, and lots of sequins are sure to keep Miss Diaz and Mr. Saab’s coterie of faithful clients coming back for more.
