Roland Mouret - Paris Couture Fall 2008
(PARIS) The Musée de la Mode is a fitting venue for Roland Mouret, as his couture collection looked like the very stuff of future expositions. Twenty-nine looks zigzagged about the spare gallery space, and most were the essence of flawless daywear. When it comes to perfecting a sheath dress, Mouret knows best. This season, he stayed true to form, offering them up in shades of black and red. Plenty of origami details, found around the waist and shoulders, made these basics anything but. The satin Christian Louboutin pumps echoed those delicate folds. A slew of the narrowest possible trousers made taut jackets appear downright modest. A few moss green looks, most notably a demure coat-dress, will surely please those lunching ladies the designer so covets. But lest one takes Mouret for a softie, look to the emerald taffeta skirt with plenty of sass. It was cleverly finished with a black and white printed bodice, proving that chez Mouret, safety is never first. "I focus on the same woman I've been following," the designer said. "But I'm giving her something she doesn't already have." Leave the summary to Linda Fargo, who embraced Mouret after the show. "How soon can we get it?"
