Valentino - Resort 2009
(NEW YORK) In her first resort collection since taking the helm at Valentino, Alessandra Facchinetti indulged her eye for romantic design, carefully applying whimsical ruffles and bows on a relatively neutral palette of separates and evening gowns. Pale grey, off white, sky blue and cherry pink dominated the soft and sweet collection, which was both forgiving in its design and appealing in its versatility. Clearly, the Valentino client has changed.
That’s not to say Facchinetti didn’t hearken back to her rock ‘n’ roll roots. Toughened-up pieces, like a chain mail-inspired bodice on an otherwise simple strapless gown, recalled romanticism on an urban backdrop. For day, the suits were all about the details: rows of enameled buttons, brooches, and silver buttons and diamonds accented the restrained outfits, while, for evening, classic shapes in chiffon, embroidered and staggered, left the fabric free to move.
