Stella McCartney - Paris Fall 2008
(PARIS) Roll Call: Twiggy, Kanye West, Peter Beard, Anna Wintour and Bee Schaffer, Suzy Menkes, Hilary Alexander
Chic Report: Stella's a thoughtful one. The show was an early (9:30 a.m!) on a chilly morning (34 degrees Fahrenheit!), but a troop of assistants offered hand-warmers to the shivering guests. Appropriately, McCartney delivered a collection that was perfectly apropos for a blustery winter, but it was far from an ode to the Fair Isle sweater. Floaty chiffon gowns mixed with sturdy outerwear like felt wrap coats, knitted cardigans, and tubular sweater dresses. "This is a bit too early in the morning for me, but it was beautiful, good, and edgy," laughed Carine Roitfeld. Isabel Dupré appreciated how McCartney played with volume and proportion. "I really liked the big flowy proportions," she said. "I was surprised by light and airy frocks that followed chunky warm coats!"
