Chic Report: By noon, rumors of a Carla Bruni appearance at the Giorgio Armani show began to swirl. But when the lights went down it was clear that the sexy smoky jazzy feeling wouldn’t be coming from the model-cum-First Lady, but from Armani's creations. Velvet was key from jackets to pants and coats. Armani was inspired by “free-spirited impressions of journeys where the points of the compass turn upside down.” Tiered gypsy dresses had models and guests ready to cha-cha down the runway. “I was intrigued by the ending gowns," said Saks's Michael Fink. "I wanted to know what was on them. Was it beads, recycled things, or plastic?”
