Aquascutum - London Fall 2008
(LONDON) Roll Call: Manolo Blahnik
Chic Report: The classic (dare we say stuffy?) British brand’s 150-year-old heritage--i.e., outfitting the military and many an aristocratic grande dame--was so due for an update. Co-designers Graeme Fidler and Michael Herz successfully sexed things up by adding sumptuous fabrics, interesting shapes and a striking color palette. There was a parade of statement coats, from Liya Kebede’s opening look, an African fabric-embellished oversized wool coat, to the Crayola crimson bouclé jacket and a genius, puff-sleeved trench. But it wasn’t just about outerwear--there were tons of standout dresses, too, including a trio of color-blocked frocks in electric orange, fuchsia, purple, and green, a fabulous LBD with floral embroidery, and a lemon-yellow sheath with red flourishes.
