Jean Paul Gaultier - Paris Fashion Week Spring 2008
(PARIS) Swashbucklers strutted down the runway in Jean Paul Gaultier's show, bringing the high seas to fashion with corseted jackets, loose chiffon blouses, paillette jodhpurs, and short cropped trousers. Intricate patterns dressed up the already extensive designs, with scalloped fabrics, lots of layering, billowing sleeves, and fringed shawls. Army-inspired pieces were thrown in along with feathered accents on skirts, all while keeping a darker look with browns, blacks, reds, and dark greens. With a slightly romantic mood throughout, the show ended with wedding ensembles, but of course the pirate theme kept strong. Johnny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow came to life in the pirate hats and bandanas models sported. Stilettos were paired with nude ankle stockings and short-shorts, tote bags were given fringed epaulets, and belts were wide--and often worn in multiples. Boots boasted buckles aplenty and the gladiator sandal was reborn in the form of armor for the shins.
