Dior - Paris Fashion Week Spring 2008
(PARIS) John Galliano's collection went from boardroom to bedroom. Beginning with the menswear-inspired look--tailored pinstripe pantsuits, trench coats, men's white shirts tucked into skirts, and long white satin tuxedo jackets--and moving into evening attire with subtle sparkle details. Simple slinky liquid metal gowns in silver and lilac glided down the runway. Exquisite fox-fur collared capes were bundled over dresses. A muted seafoam dress with a scalloped mermaid tail was an interesting look. Galliano played with the neckline --deep V-necks, one shoulder, and strappy numbers in black, white, and red with beaded details were classic elegance. Shorter, more revealing dresses doubled as lingerie in pale sheer chiffon with lace embellishments. But then there were the animal prints--cheetah suits, tiger jackets. A zebra skirt, dress, and trench made for a fiercer aesthetic. Top hats showed that the Dior woman is the ringmaster and Mr. Galliano, the lion tamer. For his bow, the designer kept with the theme and took a puff from his cigarette in the dark before the lights came on, revealing his almost-there three piece suit, sans pants, accessorized with a garter bra.
