Giles - London Fashion Week Spring 2008
(LONDON) British fashion’s bright young thing delivered a collection that did everything but disappoint. Opening with solemn, structured grey tailored pieces, Giles segwayed into more playful, lighter ‘50s-style cocktail dresses where embellishment was the name of the game. Rosettes, cut-out leaves, ruffles, tulle (spun into cotton candy concoctions) a mélange of fabrics, and ornate prints were paired with headpieces that seemed to sprout foliage. These looks were contrasted with simpler monochromatic pieces and ombré sheath dresses. Feminine frocks were given a punk edge with a bleeding Bambi design, while pink dresses were spiced up with photo prints of Kate Moss for a very pop-art feel. The finale tulle dresses returned to the grey beginnings, culminating in a black creation bursting with ribbons, ruffles, and adornments.-
