(NEW YORK) Rodarte, Peter Som, and Sari Gueron are among the now-haute designers who made their debut with the help of Gen Art, and this week, a talented newcomer will be added to the ranks. On Wednesday, 25 finalists (selected from more than 1,000 worldwide submissions) specializing in women’s ready-to-wear, eveningwear, avant-garde, menswear, and accessories will present their work in the 11th Annual Gen Art Styles International Design Competition. For the first time, finalists will show their pieces on live models, and this year, the event is combined with Gen Art’s Shop NYC event featuring emerging clothing and accessory designers. Shopping, cocktails, fashion shows--it’s easy to forget that the event is also a competition, with six winning designers, including five Design Vision Awards. Elle’s fashion news director Anne Slowey, Carlos Falchi, VPL’s Victoria Bartlett, Twinkle by Wenlan’s Wenlan Chia, and Douglas Hannant will serve on the judges committee, with the prizewinners announced at the conclusion of the show. Who might be the next Rodarte? Stay tuned…
