Nina Garcia's Elle Position: Filled at Last
(NEW YORK) At last, Elle has filled the fashion director post vacated by Nina Garcia in April 2008. Alexis Bryan Morgan, who most recently served as executive fashion director at Vanity Fair, will assume that role in January 2010. Morgan was hired by Robbie Myers and Joe Zee, and while the magazine has not specified the exact nature of her duties, sources say she will be working closely with Zee to "execute his vision."
Morgan joins a relatively top-heavy masthead, helmed by Carol Smith (senior vice president, chief brand officer), Roberta Myers (vice president, editor-in-chief/brand content), Joe Zee (creative director), and Paul Ritter (design director). Other fashion editors with director titles include Anne Slowey (fashion news and features director), Kate Lanphear (style director), Emily Dougherty (beauty/fitness director), Ellyn Chestnut (accessories director), and Joann Pailey (market director). It is unclear if any of these editors will report to Morgan, but insiders say she will be occupy the third or forth slot on the masthead--right up there with Zee and Ritter.
