(New York) Sachin and Babi Ahluwalia may still be better known for their home collection than for their ready-to-wear, but that just may be about to change. Sachin & Babi for Ankasa presented their spring 2010 collection yesterday, and it was full of the slouchy, casual chic we’ve come to expect from new designers—but with an original, refreshing twist. "The inspiration for this is every woman who has influenced me in my life, from my wife to my mother to my daughter," said Sachin. "The girl is full of drama; she’s got this unfocused, rebellious nature to her. She wears what she wants!" In this case, that means mixing traditionally day and evening looks; relaxed, even tropical silhouettes and prints got glammed up with intricate beading and embellishments. Slouchy turquoise shorts were paired with a gauzey embellished cardigan, a sheer sundress got a healthy dose of sparkle from a sequined slip underneath. The city girl looking for an ensemble that will truly take her from the beach to a cocktail party (sans the maxidresses of seasons past) has found her answer.
