Narciso Drives Home
(NEW YORK) For some, showing at Bryant Park has never been more lucrative. Narciso Rodriguez received the title of Mercedes-Benz Presents designer this season, meaning that the famed auto-maker would underwrite and support the designer’s upcoming collection. “It is a great honor to have been chosen by Mercedes-Benz as their Presents designer,” said Rodriguez, who’s scheduled to show at the Bryant Park Tent on September 15. “We are both dedicated to innovation in design and the highest level of quality.” “Narciso Rodriquez is a perfect choice to be the Mercedes-Benz Presents designer as his clothes are designed and executed with the same precision, structure and attention to detail as a Mercedes-Benz,” noted Fern Mallis, SVP of IMG Fashion.
“My Spring 2010 Collection was greatly influenced by the sculpture of Barbara Hepworth,” added Rodriguez, while speaking of his inspirations. “The three dimensional and graphic shapes that are her work became a constant source of inspiration while I sketched and created the coming season.” Rodriquez and Mercedes-Benz are also making a plan for a post-show event, though details haven’t yet been finalized. Yigal Azrouël was the company’s choice last season.
