One Night Only
(NEW YORK) Fashion Week may be rapidly approaching, but the chic set is scrambling to set not only their runway efforts, but their pre-plans--Fashion’s Night Out, that is. The CFDA’s and Anna Wintour’s plan to jump-start the retail climate with a late-night, all-city shopping fête is bringing designers and retailers together to plan a myriad of events on Sepetember 10. Vena Cava’s Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai are out to prove that Manhattan doesn’t have to be the epicenter for all things mode; the pair is putting together a huge bash in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The concept? An all-girl block party on Grand Street between Bedford and Driggs, co-hosted by Jenn Mankins of the adorable boutique Bird that happens to have its home on that block. “Girl designers, store owners, artists and DJs,” explained Mayock, “which will bring the men flocking, I’m sure!”
Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti, the only Italian brand showing in New York this year, is also enlisting the help of a certain chic girl: Mia Moretti, who will be DJing in the windows of the Philosophy store in SoHo. Ms. Ferretti herself will also be making her first personal appearance at the store, and shoppers will have the chance to win 30% discount cards (valid until May 2011!) in drawings every half hour from 6 to 11 p.m. A caricature artist will sketch every 2nd floor shopper in the store. Also downtown, West Village boutique Brunello Cucinelli will have Bettina Werner on hand displaying her wares for the night; the artist is known at the Queen of Salt, because all of her work is made from Sicilian salt. And with all that salt, they’re anticipating hungry shoppers--a chef from Umbria will be serving appetizers and Prosecco to wash down a long night.
