Lara Hélène Shuts Its Doors

Comments | | Print

(NEW YORK) The empty storefronts lining Madison Avenue show no immediate signs of repopulation; the latest to quietly shut its doors? Lara Hélène Bridal Atelier. "We have decided to put Lara Helene Bridal Atelier on hold for the immediate future," Lara Meiland-Shaw, co-founder, told The Daily. "Like so many fashion businesses, especially in the luxury space, the downturn in the economy affected our clients, and we decided not to renew our lease when it expired." Founded by business-minded sisters Meiland-Shaw and Lisa Hélène Meiland in 2004, the atelier began as a boutique, stocking exclusive designs from Carina Crain, Isabelle Montagu, Mariella Torres de Soucy, and Carsten Juhl before eventually offering just a Lara Hélène line and one called Soucy for Lara Hélène (designed by de Soucy). Lara Hélène's last live runway show took place in April 2008 for fall 2008, though a spring 2009 collection was also presented last fall.
