De la Renta, Superstar
(NEW YORK) The Fashion Group International’s annual Night of Stars event is always a huge draw for the chic set, and this year, the top honor will go to a true fashion legend: Oscar de la Renta. After Jean Paul Gaultier and Donatella Versace accepted the prestigious Superstar Awards in the last two years, de la Renta will accept his honor at the gala honoring “The Storytellers” on October 22, 2009 at Cipriani Wall Street. Though the rest of the honorees have yet to be announced, Simon Doonan has been confirmed to return as a host for the evening.
“Oscar personifies the word ‘Superstar,’” said Margaret Hayes, FGI president. “His extraordinary design talent and visionary leadership in fashion has not only endured, but evolved over time. While this award honors his lifetime achievements, it is also in recognition of the vitality and creativity clearly apparent in his current collections. Oscar is truly a most accomplished and inspirational figure in our industry.”
