A Store in Store
(NEW YORK) With storefront vacancy rates approaching 10 percent in Manhattan, emerging brands are contemplating the opportunity to test the retail waters. While Zimmermann is a household name in the designers' native Australia, where the brand operates 13 freestanding stores, sisters and co-designers Nicky and Simone Zimmermann have identified New York as a prime location for growth.
"We're still looking, but we're thinking of opening our first U.S. store in the West Village," Nicky Zimmermann revealed last night on the rooftop of the Empire Hotel, where the brand presented its Resort 2010 with a lively cocktail party. Although an opening date has not been set, expect the Zimmermann store to carry the complete line of ready-to-wear, a highlight of Rosemount Australia Fashion Week in Sydney, and swim, which is presented to retailers in editors in Miami and New York. The sisters are headed to Montauk today to shoot the Resort 2010 advertising campaign. On Saturday from 3-5 p.m., they will host an in-store shopping event at Scoop Beach in East Hampton.
