(NEW YORK) Reem Acra
The resort season is particularly critical to evening designers like Reem Acra, and her offerings were broad and basic enough to account for her wide range of clients and beyond. The gowns, as always, are just as beautiful inside as out, with such flawless boning and corsetry that it's no wonder red-carpet regulars come calling. A series of blues and turquoises mermaid-style gowns conjured up a nautical theme, while a well-priced smattering of separates like white taffeta blouses, draped miniskirts and wear-everywhere shrugs balanced the weightier fare.
The shiny glitz and high-glam of typical Naeem Khan creations was a bit subtler in the designer’s latest resort collection; hints of embellishment and beading injected the glamour, but it was pared-down details like draping and pleating that offered a sense of understated luxe. While some neutral separates and a more casual, one-shouldered draped dress with a subtle black shine will be go-tos for Khan’s loyal following, shots of bright color gave the collection its cruise appeal. A royal blue embroidered gown, a Kelly green empire-waisted gown, and a voluminous orange floor-length creation (all with the season’s ubiquitous one shoulder) are sure to rule red carpets and the gala circuit alike--for those looking for a little color in their lives.
