Max's Rainy Day Women
(NEW YORK) Does Max Azria ever run out of ideas? The powerhouse behind 22--yes, 22--brands is gearing up for the Whitney Art Party, which BCBGMAXAZRIA is sponsoring for the third consecutive year at Skylight Studios. Granted, the event (which coincides with BCBGMAXAZRIA's twentieth anniversary) always draws slews of chicettes like this year's host Camilla Belle, but Azria has come up with another way to tempt the masses. He has teamed up with artist Mark Fox to create a limited-edition umbrella known as the BCBGMAXAZRIA & Mark Fox artist collaboration that will be gifted to all attendees. The umbrella's look is based on one of Fox's recent works entitled "Deep Field Nancy" that features drops of ink assembled into landscapes. The interior is graced by a quote from Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney. “It is especially in times like these that we need to look to the spiritual," she once said. "In art we find it.” As part of the collaboration, Fox has produced one of his paper-cut sculptures that reference this quote in a calligraphic style; it will be auctioned off (alongside other works) to benefit the Whitney's Independent Study Program (ISP) and other educational initiatives. Let's hope it keeps raining!
