(NEW YORK) Donna Karan
Donna Karan's resort collection was aptly called Manhattan Tango--"a celebration of fantasy and romance with a south of the border twist." The aesthetic was pure Donna--urbane, sophicsticated and effortless--but the twist came in lively details like a ruffle here, a dash of fuschia or true red there. Plaids, stripes and jersey pieces lent an ease to the resort collection, as did wardrobe staples like a tuxedo jacket reimagined in a casual, slightly rumbled fabrication. But the showstoppers were the paper-thin leather jackets...perfect to top off a stunning hot pink ruffled gown, perhaps?
Miuccia Prada took a super-sporty route for Miu Miu's cuise collection, shown on the thrid flooor of the 57th Street store while shoppers browsed her wares below. The casual show opened with a pleated mini cape-back dress with contrasting piping-- decievingly simple and easy for all the complicated description. Deep V-necks were trimmed in the piping and layered with contrasting necklines; in some cases long, sheer dresses were layered over solid maillots for visual intrest on simple silhoutettes. The athletic aesthetic prevailed thoroughout: lace-up boxing-style boots are sure to be an editorial success, while the sporty little pleated-skirt dresses will undoubtedly result in movement on the sales floor.
