Show Time for Jason Wu!
(NEW YORK) Even the most casual observer of fashion must grasp what an extraordinary year Jason Wu has experienced--which began even before Michelle Obama became the young designer's first early adopter. Following a widely-praised Fall 2009 collection, shown in February, Wu will unveil Resort 2010 in a runway show, a ritual that has been traditionally limited to an extremely select group of New York designers such as Oscar de la Renta and Calvin Klein. Wu's show is slated for June 4 at the Greenwich Hotel.
"I love the environment down there--it's like the city away from the city," Wu said. "It was the right place and the right size for resort." The designer is still finalizing his lineup, but he expects to show between 20 and 25 looks inspired by Iris Apfel. "I've always loved her style of piling everything but the kitchen sink," Wu explained. "It's not literally taking the way she wore things, but making spirit and the mood in a way that's very much in line with what I do." Expect to see draped pieces, separates in what Wu refers to as "highlighter colors," as well as a shoe collaboration with Bruno Frisoni. "There is an interesting mix between day and evening. Some day is dressy, while some evening is dressed-down. I really wanted to blur the lines."
