Living in a Burberry World
(NEW YORK) You may still be recovering from yesterday’s holiday, but Mayor Bloomberg has another one in store. He has declared this Thursday, May 28, to be "Burberry Day" in New York City, coinciding with the official lighting of the Burberry logo on the rooftop of the brand’s new U.S. headquarters at 444 Madison Avenue. The 50-foot long logo will join the rest of the city skyline with a fête starring Christopher Bailey, Burberry head Angela Ahrendts, and over 300 guests. Invite lost in the mail? Burberry fans are invited to celebrate along by supporting The Burberry Foundation, an organization which invests in select charities focused on supporting young people in the key cities in regions where the majority of Burberry employees live and work, and where they are able to participate in volunteer roles with Burberry Foundation charity partners on the ground. Twenty percent of all purchases made in Burberry New York stores at 57th Street and Spring Street in SoHo on the Thursday will be donated to the foundation.
The company’s headquarters at 444 Madison (at 50th Street) opened just last month, and plans are in the works to make the area a bona fide Burberry universe. In addition to the two existing stores in Manhattan, Burberry is planning to open two 1600 square foot stores on either side of the headquarters building in October.
