Monocle's Double Duty
(NEW YORK) Following successful store openings in London and Los Angeles, Monocle, the magazine-turned retail concept helmed by Tyler Brule, is setting its sights on a new outpost: Palma Mallorca. The third Monocle shop, slated to be just a pop-up open from June 1 through mid-September, will have a distinctly summery theme, offering shoppers everything from Havaianas, Comme des Garçons Hinoki fragrance and candles, Valextra notebooks, and Orlebar Brown swimming shorts—along with the Monocle Top 50, the editors’ pick of the best magazines from around the world.
But the retail establishment will have another unexpected twist. Instead of staffing the space with shopgirls and boys, the behind-the counter team will come from London—specifically, Monocle’s editorial team. On a rotating weekly roster, the staffers will have the chance to escape the U.K. for a Spanish getaway…with a few hours of retail work required.
